About the Championship

The 2013 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship was hosted by VMI and took place in Lexington, Va. on Saturday, March 9, in the Keydets' Cameron Hall. The 76th annual Southern Conference Wrestling Championship featured eight teams, as SIUE competed in the championship for the first time.

2013 regular-season SoCon champion Chattanooga won its third straight tournament title, picking up four first-place individual finishes and four runner-up finishes to accumulate 102.5 team points. Campbell took second place with 62.5 points, while The Citadel had 59, good for third place. The Citadel's Odie Delaney became a four-time conference champion with his third heavyweight title, while Davidson's Anthony Elias, the seven seed at 133 pounds, won his weight class and took home Most Outstanding Wrestler honors. Chattanooga's Heath Eslinger was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. All 10 individual champions earned NCAA bids, while Appalachian State's Dominic Parisi won a true-place match at 125 pounds to take the SoCon's second bid in that weight class and runners-up Dean Pavlou of Chattanooga (141) and Zack Strickland of Appalachian State (165) earned NCAA bids at their weights.
