SoCon announces cross country runners of the week

Furman sweeps selections made by coaches' panel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Evan Guzman and Kaylie Armitage have been named The Southern Conference men’s and women’s cross-country runners of the week, respectively, after all competition September 4-10.  

Guzman, a graduate transfer, placed second overall at the Eye Opener Cross Country Meet, in Spartanburg, South Carolina with an 8,000-meters time of 25:05. The Franklin, Tennessee, product's performance helped the Paladin men to a first place finish out of 18 teams.

Kaylie Armitage, a senior, was fourth overall at the Eye Opener meet. A native of Exeter, Rhode Island, Armitage finished the 5,000-meter race in 17:16. The Paladin women finished second at the season opening event finishing with 31 points.  

Both Guzman and Armitage were the top SoCon finishers in their respective races.   

Furman will return to action on Sept. 14 as they host the Furman Invitational in Greenville, SC.
