SoCon Announces Fall All-Academic Teams

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the 2006 fall season.  A total of 238 student-athletes, representing all Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.

The 238 student-athletes averaged a 3.55 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the fall.

This is the fourth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season.  The all-academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference’s Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.

The men’s and women’s cross country squads combined for 73 student-athletes on the academic team, with women’s soccer adding 62. Furman had the most individuals selected with 30 honorees, followed by Appalachian State and Wofford each with 27.
