SoCon Announces Fall 2005 All-Academic Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the fall of 2005. A total of 254 student-athletes, representing all 11 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.

The 254 student-athletes averaged a 3.57 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. One hundred forty-two of those studentathletes earned a 3.5 or above.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the fall.

This is the fourth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The All-Academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference’s Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.

Women’s soccer placed the most student-athletes on the team with 77, followed by women’s cross country with 48 and volleyball with 36.

Wofford had the most individuals selected with 37 honorees, followed by Elon with 35 and Furman with 29.
