SoCon announces ITF Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Carson Williams and The Citadel’s Dillon McCarthy have been named the Southern Conference men’s indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively. Additionally, Furman’s Nysa Males claimed women’s track athlete of the week honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.  

Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 19-25. 

Both Furman and The Citadel competed at the USC Invite in Columbia, South Carolina, on Feb. 22. 

Williams placed third in the mile with a time of 3:58.26. The Furman senior leads the conference by just under two seconds.  

McCarthy finished second in the pole vault. The Citadel graduate student cleared 4.92 meters, claiming a season best mark and the second-best jump in school history. The mark also ranks fifth in the conference. 

Males, a freshman, placed second in the mile, clocking a time of 4:43.98, landing her second in the conference. 

The Citadel, Furman, and the remaining SoCon indoor track & field teams will now look ahead to the SoCon Indoor Championships to be held on Feb. 28- March 1 in Lexington, Virginia.
