Furman's Wilkes Places 30th In 10,000m At NCAA East Preliminaries

Wilkes, a native of Salem, Va., posted a time of 34:24.75 at the meet, which marked her first career preliminary appearance.  She ranked 17th entering Thursday's race after winning the event with a personal-best time of 33:20.08 at the Raleigh Relays.

The Citadel's Ruffin Concludes Season 19th, Parham Places 38th at NCAA Championships East Prelims

Ruffin, who finished second at the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month, finished less than two meters shy of punching her ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Parham, who also garnered a silver medal at the SoCon Championships, came up just under seven meters short of earning a qualifying position.

Christie, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, entered the long jump ranked 39th in the region. She went 5.94 meters in her first attempt, 5.79 meters in her second attempt, and then 6.00 meters in the third attempt. Overall, she finished 19th out of the 47 competitors to move up 20 spots.
