Southern Conference Announces TIAA-CREF Winter Academic All-Conference Teams
SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the winter 2003-04. A total of 102 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions were named to the team.
The 102 student-athletes averaged a 3.537 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least one-half of their team?s competitions during the winter.
This is the second year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The All-Academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference?s Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.
The men?s and women?s indoor track and field squads combined for 73 student-athletes on the academic team with women?s basketball adding 21. Appalachian State had the most individuals selected with 17 honorees, followed by Western Carolina with 12 and East Tennessee State and Furman each with 11.
