Southern Conference Announces TIAA-CREF Spring Academic All-Conference Teams
SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the spring 2004. A total of 235 student-athletes representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions were named to the team.
The 235 student-athletes averaged a 3.518 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Fourty-eight percent (113 of 235) had a 3.5 or better.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least one-half of their team?s competitions during the spring.
This is the second year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The All-Academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference?s Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.
The men?s and women?s indoor track and field squads combined for 86 student-athletes on the academic team with baseball adding 34 and women?s tennis 33. Appalachian State had the most individuals selected with 30 honorees, followed by Furman with 28, Elon with 24 and both Davidson and East Tennessee State adding 23.
