ETSU beats No. 1 Tennessee, Mercer gets win over No. 5 Florida State

ETSU 7, No. 1 Tennessee 6
The ETSU baseball team shocked the college baseball world on Tuesday as it defeated No. 1 Tennessee in 10 innings by a score of 7-6. The victory, which boosts ETSU's record to 16-4, is not only ETSU's first against the Volunteers since 2019 but it also snapped Tennessee's 22-game winning streak, and it was the first loss for the Volunteers in 2025. ETSU's offense scored seven runs and totaled 10 hits against a pitching staff that came into the game as the national leader in team ERA. Cody Miller led the charge going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base. Miller was also one of four Buccaneers to hit a home run in the landmark victory joining Jamie Palmese, Tristan Curless and Grant Gallagher. Curless and Palmese also finished the game with two hits each for the Bucs.
Mercer 9, No. 5 Florida State 3
The Mercer baseball team took a 6-0 lead through three innings and did not look back, taking down fifth-ranked Florida State for the second year in a row by a score of 9-3 on Tuesday night. The win was the highest-ranked victory for the Bears since defeating number one Florida in 2018. Bradley Frye (3-for-4) and Brant Baughcum (1-for-1) homered to power the Bears at the plate, while Jeb Johnson (3-0) was outstanding on the mound, notching a career-high nine strikeouts to earn the win.
Western Carolina 4, Presbyterian 2
Western Carolina baseball plated all the runs it would need in the first two innings on Tuesday afternoon as the Catamounts scratched out four runs including a three-run bottom of the first as WCU claimed the first of three nonconference meetings against Presbyterian 4-2 at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. Mason Holton (1-2) struck out five over five solid innings in the starting role and four Catamounts combined to drive home the four runs, earning the team's 10th victory.
Wofford Baseball Bests UNC Asheville 5-2
The Wofford baseball team plated five runs over the first five frames Tuesday evening at Greenwood Baseball Field and never looked back, holding firm late for a 5-2 victory over UNC Asheville. The Terriers improve to 15-6 on the season as the Bulldogs fall to 9-12. Four Terriers toed the rubber with Sheldon Egger starting. He hurled 4.0 shutout innings with just one hit and one walk allowed alongside three punchouts. His first 3.1 innings were hitless. Michael Sills (2-2) earned the win as the first pitcher out of the bullpen. He tossed 3.0 innings with no runs allowed on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout. Alec Bouchard polished off the final 2.0 innings. He gave up two runs on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Keydets tame Lancers in road victory
VMI Baseball gets back in the win column with a big road win against Longwood at Buddy Bolding Stadium on Tuesday night. The Keydets earn their 14th win of the season after a 9-7 victory against the Lancers. VMI scored two runs late in the game to recapture the lead and seal Longwood's fate. This is the first game the Keydets have won without scoring double-digit runs.
#7 Tigers Top The Citadel Bulldogs in Tight Affair, 6-4
The Bulldogs recorded eight hits, including a pair that recorded a multi-hit game. Lane Tobin went 2-4 with an RBI single and a double. Cole Canty recorded a career-high in hits (2) and runs scored (2). Travis Elliott posted his team-leading 14th RBI of the season. Noah Cadiz hit his second double and recorded his third RBI on the season. The Citadel used four pitchers in the game, with Maddox Webb going the longest at 3.0 innings. Webb recorded a career-high five strikeouts. Yates Bland (1-3) picked up the loss for the Bulldogs after throwing 1.0 inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Nathan Dvorsky (4-0) recorded the win for the Tigers, throwing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and one earned run.
Samford Baseball Falls In Extra Innings To Jax State, 6-4
The Samford University baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision to in-state rival Jacksonville State in 10 innings Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the loss, Samford fell to 12-9 on the season. Jacksonville State improved to 14-7 with the win. Samford was led in the loss by Jake Souders, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Michael Gupton drove in two runs, going 1-for-5 at the plate. Samford used nine pitchers during the game and the group combined to strike out 18 JSU batters. Joseph Lee (1-2) allowed two runs, just one earned to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
