Bucs finish off a sweep of VMI with two wins on Sunday
The ETSU baseball team completed a series sweep of VMI on Sunday afternoon. The Bucs started by finishing Saturday's suspended game with a 6-3 victory before closing the weekend out with a 12-6 comeback win to finish off the sweep. ETSU, which has now won seven straight games against VMI, improves to 34-12 overall and 11-4 in SoCon play with the two wins on Sunday.
VMI Baseball ends home slate against ETSU
VMI Baseball dropped both games of the home finale doubleheader against East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium. The Keydets (26-23, 5-13 SoCon) suffered a 6-3 loss in game one before faltering in game two, 12-6. Game one was resumed after weather forced a postponement during the fourth inning on Saturday.
Four-Run Eighth Inning Fuels Mercer's Comeback Win Over Wofford
Trailing 6-2 going into the sixth inning, Mercer scored two runs in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to secure a comeback win over Wofford on Sunday. Titan Kamaka (3-for-5) delivered the go-ahead hit, Zack Thompson (3-for-5) drove in three runs, and Eli Stephens (2-for-5) and Bradley Frye (1-for-6) drove in two runs apiece to lead the Bears at the plate. Terry Busse (3-1) got the win with four innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen, striking out five.
Late Rally Falls Short as Baseball Drops 10-8 Result to Mercer
The Wofford baseball team struck first Sunday afternoon against Mercer, but the Bears fought back and stifled Wofford's ninth-inning rally for a 10-8 Mercer win at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers fall to 27-22 (5-10 SoCon) as the Bears improve to 31-19 (10-8 SoCon). Five Terriers pitched in the contest with Grant Comstock starting. In his first start as a Terrier, he threw a scoreless and hitless first inning with just two walks issued.
Bulldogs Earn Senior Day Win Over Miami Of Ohio, 8-1
The Samford University baseball team picked up an 8-1 win over Miami of Ohio on Senior Day for the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the win, Samford improved its season record to 24-22. Miami of Ohio Fell to 26-20 with the loss. Samford was led in the win by Michael Gupton, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Matthew Strand went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Bulldogs.
Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader Against The Citadel
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team split a doubleheader on Sunday against The Citadel, falling 8-7 in game one before dominating game two 18-3 in seven innings, to close out a three-game series in The Southern Conference (SoCon) at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Citadel ultimately prevailed in the series after winning Friday's opener, 8-7.
Catamount Baseball Drops Series Finale at Georgia Tech
Western Carolina's offense struggled to get on track against Georgia Tech's Sunday afternoon pitching, while the Yellow Jackets scored in each of the six innings it went to the plate on the way to the 13-0 victory in seven innings in the series finale at Russ Chandler Stadium.
