Wednesdays Baseball Roundup

Hayden Friese Triples Home Game-Winner at UNC Asheville
Hayden Friese tripled to right field to plate Jackson Lyda with the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday evening as Western Carolina fended off mountain rival UNC Asheville's feverish rally over the final four frames as the Catamounts completed the seasonal sweep of the nonconference home-and-home with a 14-13 victory at Greenwood Field. Wednesday marked the second one-run victory for the Catamounts over the Bulldogs this season as WCU rallied from an 8-2 deficit to score a walk-off 9-8 win back on March 25. It was also the third one-run win amidst WCU's current six-game series win streak.

Keydets rattled by Highlanders in road loss
VMI Baseball split the season series with Radford after falling in Wednesday night's contest at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium. A fourth-inning Radford surge haunted the Keydets (25-17, 5-7 SoCon), leading to a 12-5 final in favor of the Highlanders. VMI scored five runs off six hits with five RBIs. Grayson Fitzwater hit his 14th home run of the season, moving into fourth all-time with 38 career homers, and extended his on-base streak to 37 games. Ryan Peterson tallied a pair of RBIs and two doubles. Boston Torres went two for three, extending his on-base streak to 42 games, tied for the longest streak in program history. Owen Prince earned an RBI and a stolen base. James Newsome scored twice. Marcus Van Alstine and Andrew Jones each went 3.1 innings in relief and combined for five strikeouts.
