SoCon baseball player, pitcher of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU outfielder Blake Jacklin and relief pitcher Brady Frederick have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from April 7-13. The awards are selected by the league office.

Jacklin hit .571 this week, going 8-for-14 against Western Carolina in the weekend series. The St. Jacobs, Ontario, product scored one run on two hits in game one of the series, a 9-2 victory for the Bucs. On Saturday, April 12, the outfielder scored another run on one hit. In the final game of the series, the senior went 5-for-5 and scored three runs. Jacklin logged a home run, three RBIs, and three stolen bases in the 11-0 shutout, helping ETSU to a series sweep.

Frederick pitched two shoutout innings in relief for the Bucs on Friday, striking out four and walking one. On Saturday, the Knoxville, Tennessee, native inherited a bases loaded situation with nobody out. The sophomore did not allow a run and pitched four innings to finish out the game, giving up two hits and striking out four to earn the save against the Catamounts.

ETSU (25-9, 6-3 SoCon) will go to Virginia Tech for a Tuesday matchup, then welcome Mercer for the weekend series beginning Thursday.
