SoCon Announces TIAA-CREF Spring Academic All-Conference Teams

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the 2007 spring season.  A total of 207 student-athletes, representing all Southern Conference institutions and eight spring sports, were named to the team.

The 207 student-athletes averaged a 3.55 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Over half of the student-athletes hold a 3.5 and above.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring of 2007 and have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the spring season.

This is the fourth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season.  The all-academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference’s Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.

The women’s outdoor track and field teams landed 61 student-athletes on the team with baseball and softball each adding 31. Western Carolina led the team with 31 honorees, followed by Appalachian State with 29 and Furman with 25.
