Samford Baseball Evens Series At VMI With 9-2 Win Friday
The Samford University baseball team evened its series at VMI with an impressive 9-2 win over the Keydets Friday evening at Gray-Minor Stadium. With the win, Samford improved its record to 21-17 overall and 7-4 in Southern Conference play. VMI fell to 25-15 overall and 5-6 in SoCon play. Samford was led in the win by Michael Gupton, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Jeffrey Ince went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Cade Carr went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Jackson Harris went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Jake Souders went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Wofford's Baseball’s Comeback Push Falls Just Short at WCU
The Wofford baseball team got the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth inning but could not complete the late comeback at Hennon Stadium Friday evening, falling 7-4 to Western Carolina. The Terriers drop to 24-16 (3-8 SoCon) as the Catamounts improve to 18-20 (3-8 SoCon). Branton Little (4-5) suffers the loss as the starter for Wofford, tossing 4.2 innings with seven runs allowed on nine hits. Grant Comstock hurled 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with a pair of strikeouts, and Austin Laughlin pitched a scoreless frame.
Revis Fans Six as Catamounts Even Series with Wofford
Mason Holton doubled twice with a pair of RBI and Hayden Friese legged out a run-scoring double as part of a three-hit effort offensively while Dusty Revis struck out seven over a seven-inning start on Friday as Western Carolina evened its best-of-three Southern Conference series with Wofford with a 7-4 victory at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. Trailing by a run after the top of the first inning, the Catamounts jumped on visiting Wofford in the home half of the opening inning with four runs on the way to an eventual 7-1 lead through five complete innings, capped by a three-run fifth. WCU's Revis and closer Brandon Langley held the Terriers in check over the final four frames to make the two big innings stand up for the win.
VMI's Garner brings offensive spark in Friday’s loss to Samford
VMI Baseball had a tough outing Friday night against Samford at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium. The Keydets (25-15, 5-6 SoCon) suffered a 9-2 defeat to the Bulldogs, evening the series ahead of Saturday's matinee. Leading the charge offensively was Bradley Garner, who tallied three of VMI's six hits, including a home run that produced the lone RBI.
Bucs break program’s single game home run record in an 11-0 win over Mercer
The ETSU baseball team made some history on Friday night as it slugged a single-game program record eight home runs in an 11-0 run-rule victory at Mercer. With Friday's win, the Buccaneers are now 26-11 overall and 7-4 in SoCon play. The Bucs had 12 hits in the win and eight of them were home runs. All eight long balls were solo shots. Cody Miller, Lenny Montesano and Cooper Torres all hit two homers a piece. Jamie Palmese and Tristan Curless also notched homers in the historic night for the Buccaneer offense. To go along with ETSU's impressive slugging performance, the Bucs also got one of its best starts of the season from sophomore Jace Hyde. Hyde held the Mercer offense, which hit three long balls in the first game of the series on Thursday, to two baserunners (a double, a walk) in seven shutout innings. Hyde, who struck out six on Friday, improved his record to 6-0 on the season with the standout performance against Mercer.
ETSU Downs Mercer To Even Series
ETSU scored 11 runs in the first four innings, including eight home runs, to take game two of the weekend series over Mercer by a score of 11-0 on Friday night. Bradley Frye (1-for-2) doubled for the lone Mercer hit. Jace Hyde (6-0) tossed all seven innings to get the win for ETSU, while Jeb Johnson (3-3) took the loss for Mercer.
