SoCon Baseball Championship Game 4 suspended
Samford leads Western Carolina 5-3 in the top of the fourth inning
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Friday’s game between No. 2 seed Samford and No. 4 seed Western Carolina in the Southern Conference Baseball Championship presented by Holston Gases has been suspended due to inclement weather with Samford leading 5-3 in the top of the fourth inning. The game will resume at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The loser of that game will then play No. 1 seed Wofford in an elimination contest at either 5:30 p.m. or 60 minutes following the conclusion of the Samford/Western Carolina game. The championship game will now take place on Sunday at noon, with a second game, if necessary, following 40 minutes after the first game’s conclusion.
In Friday’s suspended contest, Samford built a 5-0 lead on the strength of a three-run second inning and a two-run third. The Bulldogs got an RBI groundout from Will David and a two-run triple from Max Pinto in the second before Sonny DiChiara hit a solo homer to lead off the third and Ryan Crockett added an RBI groundout later in the inning.
The Catamounts put their three runs on the board just moments before the tarp was pulled and the rain began to fall. After Justice Bigbie and Luke Robinson drew walks to lead off the inning, Daylan Nanny stroked a three-run home run to right to get Western Carolina right back into the game. A groundout and a walk followed before the game was suspended, so the Catamounts will pick up with Bryson Parks on first and Tom Brosnahan batting with one out in the top of the fourth.
