SoCon baseball player, pitcher of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel left fielder TJ Anderson, and UNCG relief pitcher Jake Colucci have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from April 28-May 4. The awards are selected by the league office.

Anderson hit .625 with two doubles and a home run as The Citadel took two of three games from the Spartans. The Aynor, South Carolina, native put together his most productive game of the series in the opener, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and two RBIs in a 8-7 Bulldog victory. In game one of the doubleheader on Sunday, an 8-7 win, the junior went 2-for-3 with two more RBIs and a run scored off a home run. In the final game of the series, the leftfielder had one run, one hit and a walk as the Bulldogs fell 18-3.

The Citadel (25-20, 9-6 SoCon) will travel to the College of Charleston on Tuesday, then host Winthrop on Wednesday. The Bulldogs go to Western Carolina for their weekend series set to begin on Friday.

Colucci made two appearances for the Spartans this week, finishing with a 0.00 ERA. On Tuesday against No. 19 Coastal Carolina, the freshman pitched 4.1 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three batters. On Sunday against UNCG, the right hander pitched three innings, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits. For the week, the Virginia Beach, Virginia, product tossed 7.1 innings, stuck out seven and did not give up a run or extra-base hit.

ETSU (19-27, 8-7 SoCon) will travel to Samford for the weekend series starting on Friday.
