Strong Pitching Leads Bulldogs to 3-1 Victory Over the Buccaneers
The Citadel pitching staff allowed one earned run over nine innings in a 3-1 win over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Tuesday night. Travis Elliott scored the first run of the game for the Bulldogs with a safety squeeze, bringing in Aryan Patel from third to make it 1-0 in the third inning. The Buccaneers tied the game at 1-1 at the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run from Kaden Smith. The Bulldogs regained the lead at 2-1 after a balk by Charleston Southern, scoring Lane Tobin in the bottom of the fourth. Thomas Rollauer added an insurance run for The Citadel with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Anthony Hauser and extending the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Maddox Webb held the Buccaneers scoreless during the eighth and ninth innings, securing a 3-1 victory for the Bulldogs.
Wofford Baseball Topples Queens 13-5
The Wofford baseball team used a six-run third inning to set an early tone with a lead it would not relent Tuesday night in a damp 13-5 win over Queens (N.C.) at Russell C. King Field. The start of the contest was delayed an hour due to rain in the area. The Terriers improve to 25-17 as the Royals fall to 5-33. Four Terriers toed the rubber with Dylan Rhadans making the start, tossing 3.2 innings with just one run allowed on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Grant Comstock (1-1) earned the win as the first reliever out of the bullpen, allowing two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings of work. He struck out a pair as he recorded his first-career victory. Michael Sills pitched 2.0 frames with a pair of runs allowed, and Austin Laughlin polished off the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning that featured two punchouts.
Bucs finish the season sweep of Appalachian State, 13-6
Behind 13 runs on 13 hits, the ETSU baseball team notched a 13-6 victory on the road at Appalachian State on Tuesday night. The victory, which boosts ETSU's record to 28-11, clinches the first season sweep of the Mountaineers for the Buccaneers since 2011. Five Bucs recorded multi-hit games on Tuesday. Cooper Torres led the charge going 3-for-5, finished a home run shy of the cycle and five RBI. Cody Miller went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Grant Gallagher, Gabe Juarez, and Jamie Palmese all had two hit games as well.
Samford Baseball Falls To No. 18 Alabama, 11-7
The Samford University baseball team battled the 18th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide before falling by a score of 11-7 Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. With the loss, Samford dropped its record to 22-18 on the season. Alabama improved its mark to 32-10 with the win. For Samford in the loss, Jeffrey Ince went 2-for-5 with a home run and one RBI. Michael Gupton went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Jackson Harris went 2-for-5 with a double, while Jake Souders homered, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.
