Western Carolina baseball capitalized on its opportunities on Friday evening, taking advantage of seven walks and four VMI errors to claim the Southern Conference opener for both squads 7-3 at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Keydets clawed by Catamounts in SoCon opener
VMI Baseball dropped its first Southern Conference duel to Western Carolina Friday night at Hennon Stadium. The Keydets (14-8, 0-1 SoCon) suffered a series-opening loss to the Catamounts, 7-3. VMI went hit-for-hit with Western Carolina but it was the Keydets' four errors that came back to haunt them.

The ETSU baseball team continued its winning ways in its first game of SoCon play on Friday as it defeated Samford by a score of 6-1. Friday's victory improves ETSU's record to 17-4 in 2025, including a 16-2 mark in games played at Thomas Stadium. Samford Baseball Opens SoCon Play With Loss At ETSU
The Samford University baseball team opened Southern Conference play with a 6-1 loss at ETSU Friday afternoon at Thomas Stadium. With the loss, Samford fell to 12-10 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improved to 17-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Citadel Bulldogs Walk-Off Mercer in SoCon Opener
The Citadel recorded their first walk-off win on the season. TJ Anderson recorded the game-winning hit for the Bulldogs, the first of his career as a Bulldog. Lane Tobin and Thomas Rollauer had multi-hit games. Garrett Dill went 2-5 with three RBIs, bringing his season total to 12. The bullpen held Mercer to one unearned run over the last four innings of the game. Andrew Stanley pitched seven strong innings in his first start as a Bulldog, allowing four earned runs and a season-high six strikeouts. Anthony Hausner (1-1) recorded his first win of the season after throwing 1.0 innings, striking out one on three batters faced.
Bears Drop Extra-Innings Heartbreaker To The Citadel
The Mercer baseball team battled for 11 innings but came up just short, falling to the Citadel by a score of 6-5 in Charleston on Friday night. Bradley Frye (2-for-4) homered twice and Parker Lester (2-for-5) added a home run of his own to lead the Bears at the plate. Jess Ackerman (1-2) took a tough-luck loss, totaling career highs in innings pitched ( 6 – 1/3) and strikeouts (10) while allowing just one run on two hits and one walk. Anthony Hauser (1-1) got the win for The Citadel.
Wofford Baseball Downs Villanova 11-1 in Series Opener
The Wofford baseball team picked up an emphatic game one win Friday evening at Russell C. King Field, toppling Villanova 11-1 in seven innings. The Terriers were powered by Branton Little going the distance on the mound with all nine batters contributing in the lineup. Wofford improves to 16-7 as the Wildcats fall to 11-9.
UNCG Baseball Falls 3-1 in Series Opener Against UConn
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was defeated 3-1 in a non-conference series opener by the UConn Huskies on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium. Luke Holland got the Spartans on the board in a hurry during the bottom of the first inning by hitting his third home run of the season, a leadoff blast over the wall in left-center to make it 1-0.
