Western Carolina’s Kell named SoCon Player of the Week

Redshirt sophomore had a career week in a pair of league games

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Marcus Kell has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Feb. 3-9. The award is selected by the league office.
 

Kell began his week tallying a career-high 29 points, including going 5-for-9 from behind the arc, in a Feb. 5 game at Furman. The redshirt sophomore also had eight rebounds, two blocks and a steal against the Paladins. On Feb. 8 at UNCG, the native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, posted his first double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points, 11 rebounds, which matched a career high, and a steal. Kell hit two 3-pointers and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line versus the Spartans.

For the week, Kell averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 53.8 percent from beyond the arc and 93.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Western Carolina (6-17, 2-10 SoCon) hosts ETSU (15-10, 8-4) on Feb. 12, and The Citadel (5-18, 0-12) on Feb. 15.
