ETSU’s Peterson named SoCon Player of the Week
Senior averages a double-double in a pair of wins

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU guard Quimari Peterson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Feb. 17-23. The award is selected by the league office.
Peterson, who also won the honor on Nov. 25, led ETSU to two important conference wins last week, playing every minute in both contests. On Feb. 19, the native of Gary, Indiana, poured in 29 points, grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and had two steals in a 65-49 win over UNCG. During the second half of that game, Peterson scored his 1,000th point as a Buccaneer, becoming the seventh player in ETSU history to score 1,000 points in his first two seasons with the program. The senior followed that with 27 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals as ETSU defeated Wofford, 73-68, on Feb. 22. Peterson’s performances marked the first two double-doubles of the season for the Bucs guard.
For the week, Peterson averaged 28.0 points and 11.5 rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from the field and 59.1 percent from beyond the arc.
ETSU (17-12, 10-6 SoCon) hosts Mercer (12-17, 5-11) on Feb. 26, before concluding the regular season at The Citadel (5-22, 0-16) on March 1.
Other nominees: PJay Smith Jr. (Furman), Jalen Breath (UNCG), Trey Fort (Samford), Bash Wieland (Chattanooga) and Corey Tripp (Wofford)
