Southern Conference Announces Winter Academic All-Conference

191 Student-Athletes Earn Recognition for Academic Achievements

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced today its Academic All-Conference team for the 2010-11 winter season. A total of 191 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.

The 191 student-athletes, which participated in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field and wrestling recorded a 3.55 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Seven student-athletes have maintained perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs, including Chattanooga's David Moore, Morgan Buchanan and Shelley Taylor, The Citadel's Natalie Wolin, Elon's Katelynn O'Dunne, UNCG's Ashley Schnell and Western Carolina's Morgan Turner.

To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded winter campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

The women's indoor track and field programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 86, followed by men's indoor track and field with 42 and women's basketball with 32.

Among institutions, Samford had the highest number of academic all-conference team members with 24. Western Carolina (23), Elon (22) and Davidson (21) also had at least 20 student-athletes honored as well.
