Saturday's Men's Basketball Roundup

Furman defeats VMI behind Anderson's 22-point performance

Furman defeated SoCon rival VMI by a score of 75-71 on Saturday afternoon. The Paladins went into the break leading by three points, and then outscored the Keydets 45-44 over the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

Nick Anderson and PJay Smith scored 22 and 17 points, respectively, to lead the way for Furman.

VMI's offense was led by TJ Johnson, who scored 21 points.


UNC Greensboro powers past Mercer

UNC Greensboro claimed a commanding 78-61 victory over Mercer on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans trailed at the half, but they jumped on the Bears after the break, outscoring them 52-32 over the final 20 minutes.

Donovan Atwell scored 17 points to lead the way for UNC Greensboro.

Chip Johnson recorded 22 points and six rebounds, and Ahmad Robinson contributed another 10 points to pace Mercer.


Peterson, ETSU defeat Wofford

ETSU defeated Wofford in a thrilling 73-68 back-and-forth affair at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The score was even after 20 minutes of play in a dynamic game that saw 15 different lead changes. The Buccaneers had an edge in the second half, though, outscoring the Terriers 47-42.

Quimari Peterson led ETSU, recording 27 points and 10 rebounds for their second consecutive double-double.

The offense was effective for the Terriers despite the loss. They scored their 68 points on 40% shooting from the field.


Chattanooga wins yet another SoCon game, this time over The Citadel

Chattanooga topped The Citadel in a 76-75 contest at McKenzie Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Mocs went into halftime with an eight-point lead. Despite being outscored 42-35 in the second half, they were able to fend off the Bulldogs and hold on for the win.

Bash Wieland scored 17 points in an incredibly efficient 8-of-11 shooting performance to lead the way for Chattanooga.

The Citadel's Brody Fox led the offensive charge for the Bulldogs, tallying 21 points.


Samford powers past Western Carolina

Samford claimed a commanding 93-72 victory over Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs started fast, accumulating an eight-point lead into the break. They did not let up in the second half either, increasing their lead to as large as 24 points.

Trey Fort scored a game-high 24 points to lead the way for Samford.

Marcus Kell put up 19 points to lead Western Carolina.
