Furman’s Smith named SoCon Player of the Week
Senior averages 21.5 points for the week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman guard PJay Smith Jr. has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Nov. 11-17. The award is selected by the league office.
Smith, who won the honor for the second consecutive week, led Furman to a pair of wins last week. On Nov. 11, the senior finished with 14 points, six boards, six assists, and four steals in a 78-69 win over Jacksonville. Four days later, the product of Lavergne, Tennessee, contributed a season-high 29 points, including six makes behind the arc, along with three assists, three steals and two rebounds in a 75-67 win against Tulane. Smith’s 29 point-performance marked his highest output in his two seasons with the Paladins, with his previous high of 23 coming at Tulane last season.
Furman (4-0) hosts Oglethorpe on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Charleston Southern on Saturday at 2 p.m.
