UNCG’s Hernandez named SoCon men’s golfer of the week

Shot 8-under 208 to grab his first collegiate individual win

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Kelvin Hernandez has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition to this point in the fall. The selection is made by the league office and is the first one of the season.
 
Hernandez won the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, North Carolina, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The sophomore posted rounds of 68-69-71 for a tournament score of 208 (-8). The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native recorded 15 birdies at the event, with five coming in each round. The victory marked the first individual collegiate win for Hernandez.

UNCG won the Bryan National Collegiate in the 10-team, 67-golfer field, with a 10-under-par 854 performance. The Spartans shot 279 in the first round, 282 in the second round and 293 in the final round.

The Spartans play their next tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Bearcat Invitational on Sept. 16-17.

Also nominated: Harris Barth (Furman), Henry Robards (Mercer), Garrison Guthrie (Samford) and Chase Cline (Western Carolina)
