Western Carolina’s Ninkovic named SoCon men’s golfer of the week

Tied a career-best finish at the Catamounts’ home event

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Ivan Ninkovic has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Sept. 11-17. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Ninkovic finished tied for seventh, which tied a career-best individual finish, at the JT Poston Invitational in Waynesville, North Carolina, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The junior posted rounds of 70-71-68 for a tournament score of 209 (-1). Despite wet conditions, the native of Pula, Croatia, moved 13 spots up the individual leaderboard on the final day of tournament, shooting his best round of the event. Ninkovic concluded the three-day event with 12 birdies.

Western Carolina finished fourth at the JT Poston Invitational in the 15-team, 88-golfer field, with a 1-under 839 performance. The Catamounts shot 282 in the first round, 281 in the second round and 276 in the final round.

The Catamounts play their next tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina at the Carolina Cup on Oct. 6-8.

Also nominated: Trey Diehl (Furman), Henry Robards (Mercer), Jack Marcotte (UNCG), Camden Braidech (Chattanooga) and Ben Jordan (Wofford)
