ETSU’s Ege Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior was a co-medalist at the Wake Forest Invitational, holds a 3.47 GPA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU men’s golfer, Mats Ege has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Feb. 28-March 5.  The selection is made by the conference office.

Ege, who won the award on Oct. 11, earned co-medalist honors at the Wake Forest Invitational, which was played at Pinehurst after posting a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 209. The redshirt senior began the final round two shots off the lead but turned in a 2-under 70 to jump to the top of the leaderboard, picking up his fourth career victory.

For the tournament, the Kristiansand, Norway, native led the field with 12 birdies and par-5 scoring (-4) while playing par-4s at even-par. As a team, ETSU shot five-over, 285 to finish second, beating out Wake Forest, Duke, Clemson, Northwestern and NC State.
Ege was named to the Haskin Award Spring Watch List on Monday and holds a 3.47 GPA while majoring in Management.
