Furman’s Akers named SoCon men’s golfer of the week
Leads the General Hackler Championship after two rounds

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Clark Akers has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competitions from March 13-19. The selection is made by the league office.
Akers leads the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after two rounds. The event will wrap play on Wednesday. The sophomore, playing as an individual, shot a 69 in the first round to sit in fifth place before surging into the lead during round two, shooting a 68 which was aided by four birdies on the back nine. The Nashville, Tennessee, native currently leads the tournament in par-3 scoring (-4) and par-5 scoring (-8).
Furman began the final round in fourth place in the 14-team, 81-golfer field. The Paladins shot 292 in the first round and 288 in the second round.
The Paladins play their next tournament in Awendaw, South Carolina, at the Hootie at Bulls Bay on March 24-26.
