Chattanooga’s Whitaker and Wear named SoCon men’s golfers of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Braedon Wear and Ethan Whitaker have been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Golfers of the Week for all competition from Feb. 5-11. The selection is made by the league office.
 
The two golfers shared medalist honors at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas, which wrapped play on Tuesday. Wear, a senior from Maryville, Tennessee, posted rounds of 71-68-69, while Whitaker, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, shot rounds of 71-67-70, with each golfer completing the tournament with a score of 208 (-5). During the event, Wear tied for the lead in birdies (12) and par 4 scoring (3.89). Whitaker led the event in eagles (2) and logged a hole-in-one on the fourth hole during the final round, marking the first hole-in-one for the Mocs in three seasons.

Chattanooga won the Bentwater Intercollegiate with a tournament score of 850 (-2) in a field of 14 teams and 81 golfers. The Mocs shot 292 in the first round, 273 in the second round and 285 in the final round. Chattanooga trailed host Sam Houston by 14 strokes after round one and by 10 strokes entering the final day of the event before making a comeback, giving the Mocs their eighth team win over the last two seasons.

The Mocs will play their next tournament at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina, on March 2-3.
