SoCon unveils refreshed brand ahead of 2023-24 school year
Enhancements aim to modernize presentation while honoring conference history

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference proudly launches its refreshed brand today prior to the beginning of athletic competition in the 2023-24 school year.
The conference’s refreshed brand and primary logo leverages the term and abbreviation “SoCon” while providing improvements to the visual representation and artistic presentation. The new logo builds from the conference’s previous secondary logo and modernizes the visuals to be more effective in a variety of media presentations.
“We are proud to unveil our refreshed brand, marking an exciting new chapter in The Southern Conference's visual representation,” SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross said. “These dynamic changes present a more compelling and versatile image across a wide array of media including many social media, print, and digital platforms that didn't exist at the time of the previous brand's introduction in 1999.”
In addition to revising the primary logo, the league’s new formal logo refers to the SoCon as “The Southern Conference.” The adjustment and addition of “The” is an acknowledgement of the SoCon’s status as the fifth-oldest conference in the country, serving as a precursor to other conferences, including the ACC and SEC, inside the SoCon’s geographical footprint.
"We are thrilled to be working with the SoCon to refresh a most distinctive conference brand identity.” said Joe Bosack, founder and Creative Director of Joe Bosack & Co., who provided assistance to the SoCon in the logo refresh. “In collaboration with the conference leadership, we were able to maintain the logo’s brand equity and update the mark for use in a variety of contemporary media applications.”
The enhanced primary and formal logos will be used to revise the conference’s championship graphics, website, social media and other representations in the future. SoCon members will be able to use the new logo in colors that align with and complement each institution’s brand presentation. The changes were informed by a committee of representatives from the ten SoCon institutions and The Brand Leader who provided feedback during the development and revision process.
The Southern Conference is headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina, consisting of 10 full member schools across six states in 20 sponsored sports. Nine other institutions serve as affiliate members in the SoCon-sponsored sports of wrestling and rifle.
