VMI's Blount named to VaSID All-State Team

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI junior multi-event athlete Isaiah Blount was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men's University Division All-State Track and Field Team for his accomplishments during the 2023 outdoor season.
 
The junior from Milford, Virginia, was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team after placing second in the decathlon at the SoCon Outdoor Championships in May to earn All-SoCon honors. He achieved a personal-best point total of 6,258 points over the 10 events, placing second in the shot put, 400-meter run, 110-meter hurdles and the pole vault. At the VertKlasse Meeting in April, he earned a personal-record time of 23.70 seconds in the 200m. Later in the season, he placed first in the decathlon at the New Captains Classic with 5,889 points by placing first in the shot and discus and second in the 100m, 400m and pole vault.
 
His high finish in the decathlon helped the VMI men's team to an impressive third-place finish at the SoCon Outdoor Championships in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
 
During the indoor season, Blount placed second in the heptathlon at the VMI Winter Relays, where he logged 4,201 points after placing first in the shot put and the 1,000-meter run.
