Men’s soccer players of the week announced

Furman’s Wilfer Bustamante, UNCG’s Emmanuel Hagan honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Wilfer Bustamante and UNCG defender Emmanuel Haga have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Oct. 22-28. 

 

Bustamante scored in both matches this week as the Paladins posted a 1-0-1 record. In a 2-0 victory over Wofford, the Greenville, S.C., native netted the game winning goal in the 53rd minute of the game. In a 1-1 draw at ETSU, the freshman forward scored Furman’s only goal to keep the Paladins in the running for a regular season championship.

 

Hagan played 180 minutes in the Spartans’ backfield this week as the team went 2-0 against UNC Wilmington and VMI. The Accra, Ghana, product was part of the defense that held UNC Wilmington to one goal on the way to a 3-1 victory, then helped produce a shutout against VMI, UNCG’s seventh of the season.

 

UNCG (9-2-4, 2-1-1 SoCon) hosts ETSU on Saturday. Furman (7-3-3, 2-1-1 SoCon) hosts Mercer on Saturday. UNCG and Furman are currently tied for second place in the conference.
