But Chris Mark helped the Wildcats tie the match at 1-all at No. 3 singles, defeating Wofford’s Keith in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Davidson took the lead for the first time in the match following a victory at No. 6, as Alex Howard registered a 6-2, 6-1, win against Wofford’s Graham Duncan to push the Wildcats out to a 2-1 edge.
It came down to a tiebreaker, but the Wildcats managed to take a 3-1 lead after a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), decision by Connor Evins versus Wofford’s Wood at No. 5 singles.
Davidson’s Joe Shafer managed to clinch the match win for the Wildcats at No. 1 singles, topping Wofford’s Rob Galloway in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3, to give his team the win.

ELON, N.C. – In afternoon action at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University, the sixth-seeded Georgia Southern Eagles defeated the eleventh-seeded Citadel Bulldogs, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2013 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship.
Georgia Southern improves to 11-8 with the win and advances to the tournament quarterfinals tomorrow to face third-seeded College of Charleston at 11 a.m. at the Burlington Tennis Center. The Bulldogs fall to 7-14 with the setback.
Georgia Southern won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 match lead. Oliver Webb and Matthijs Verdam defeated The Citadel’s David Orces and Peter Bleach, 8-1, at No. 1 to give the Eagles early momentum. Minutes later, Marco Osorio and Rayane Djouad clinched the doubles point at No. 2 with an 8-4 decision versus The Citadel’s Alex Howle and Oliver Dedding.
Albert Codina Sala helped the Eagles jump out to a 2-0 lead in singles action, defeating The Citadel’s Dillon Berkabile in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Shortly thereafter, Georgia Southern’s Matthijs Verdam defeated Peter Bleach of The Citadel, 6-0,6-1, to extend the Eagles’ lead to 3-0 and put his team within a point of advancing.
Rafael Racy clinched the fourth and final point for Georgia Southern at No. 6, defeating Jackson Pride in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to give the Eagles the 4-0 victory.

ELON, N.C. – The 2013 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships kicked off on Thursday morning, April 18, with a 4-0 win by eighth-seeded Furman against ninth-seeded Appalachian State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University.
Furman improves to 9-14 with the win, while the Mountaineers fall to 6-15 with the setback. The Paladins advance to the tournament quarterfinals to face top-seeded Elon tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. at the Burlington Tennis Center.
The Paladins claimed an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Furman’s No. 3 tandem of Jacob Behal and Tyler Droll claimed an 8-3 decision against the Mountaineers’ Steve Karendal and Steve Lake. Alex Christ and Matt Browne won 8-5 versus Andrew McKinnon and Jan-Willem Kleynhans at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
Andrew Mellow extended Furman’s lead to 2-0 at No. 1 singles after recording a 6-0, 6-1, decision against Appalachian State’s Karendal.
The Paladins came within a point of clinching the match win at No. 6, as Behal won in straight sets against Appalachian State’s Kleynhans, 6-4, 6-4, to give Furman a 3-0 lead.
Luke Synn clinched the match win for the Paladins at No. 5, claiming a 7-5, 6-0, victory against APP’s Matt Saltsgiver.
