Furman’s Elijah Poritzky named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Elijah Poritzky has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Feb.4-10. The selection is made by the league office.

Poritzky, who also won the honor on Jan. 28, helped Furman to their 12^th consecutive SoCon opening win against The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 8. The senior paired with John Rado for the first time this season at the No. 1 doubles position, earning a 6-4 victory over Noah Can Dyke and Reece Beckendorf as Furman claimed the doubles point. In singles, the Palma De Mallorca, Spain, native defeated Van Dyke in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to claim the third match point for the Paladins, setting them up to clinch.

Furman (2-2, 1-0 SoCon) will host Georgia State on Saturday, Feb. 15, then Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Feb. 16.
