Furman’s Elijah Poritzky named SoCon player of the week
Senior won at the top singles and doubles position in SoCon opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Elijah Poritzky has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Feb.4-10. The selection is made by the league office.
Poritzky, who also won the honor on Jan. 28, helped Furman to their 12th consecutive SoCon opening win against The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 8. The senior paired with John Rado for the first time this season at the No. 1 doubles position, earning a 6-4 victory over Noah Can Dyke and Reece Beckendorf as Furman claimed the doubles point. In singles, the Palma De Mallorca, Spain, native defeated Van Dyke in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to claim the third match point for the Paladins, setting them up to clinch.
Furman (2-2, 1-0 SoCon) will host Georgia State on Saturday, Feb. 15, then Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Feb. 16.
