Mercer’s MacLeod named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second straight week, Mercer’s Samuel MacLeod has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from April 2 – April 8. The selection is made by the league office.

The senior from Glasgow, Scotland posted a perfect 4-0 record on the week, including two wins each at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles. He won two straight-set singles matches - a 7-6, 7-5 win over The Citadel's Lucas Robins last Monday (April 1) and a 6-4, 6-1 win over Chattanooga's Kristof Kincses last Sunday (April 7). MacLeod also partnered with teammate Samuel Barrow to record the pair’s fourth and fifth straight victories at No. 3 doubles, with a 6-4 win over Robins and Noah Van Dyke, followed by knocking off Chattanooga’s Walker Valentine and Jaxon Lamb, 6-3.

Mercer (7-10, 4-1 SoCon) is scheduled to get back on the courts on Friday (April 12) when the team hosts Samford (12-7, 5-1) in a SoCon matchup.
