Mercer’s MacLeod named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Senior was Undefeated in Doubles

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Samuel MacLeod has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from March 26 – April 1. The selection is made by the league office.

The senior from Glasgow, Scotland posted a 5-1 record on the week, including a 3-0 mark at No. 3 doubles. He went 2-1 in singles play, with his only setback coming in three sets to ETSU’s Alberto Garcia. Following an opening set loss to Alabama State’s Kristofer Johnson, who is ranked No. 75, MacLeod rallied to win a pair of 6-1 sets to clinch the upset of the Hornets last Saturday (March 30). MacLeod also recorded the match-clinching point in Mercer’s win over The Citadel on April 1, defeating the Bulldogs’ Lucas Robins, 7-6, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.

Mercer (6-10, 3-1 SoCon) is scheduled to get back on the courts on Sunday (April 7) when the team hosts Chattanooga (8-12, 2-2) in a SoCon matchup.

Also nominated: Jakub Jupa (Chattanooga), Dimitri Badra (ETSU), Walker Allen (Furman) and Devon Moskowitz (UNCG)
