Furman’s Elijah Poritzky named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Elijah Poritzky has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition from Jan. 21-27. The selection is made by the league office.
A senior, Poritzky picked up a singles and doubles win in the Paladins’ first victory of the season, a 5-2 triumph at Xavier on Jan. 25. At No. 1 doubles, Poritzky and Matt Kandel defeated Ryan Cahill and Charlie Temming, 6-2. The Palma De Mallorca, Spain, product secured the match for Furman with a straight set win, 7-6(7-3), 6-4, against Cahill at the No. 1 singles position.
Furman (1-2) will travel to The Citadel to begin conference play on Saturday, Feb. 8.
