SoCon announces cross country runners of the week

Furman collects both runner of the week honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Furman’s Carly Wilkes and Carson Williams have been named The Southern Conference men’s and women’s cross-country runners of the week, respectively, after all competition Sept. 25-Oct. 1.  

Furman competed at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Sept. 27, in Madison, Wisconsin. 

Wilkes, a junior from Salem, Virginia, placed ninth with a 6k time of 20:18, besting her time in Madison last season. Wilkes’ performance helped lead the Furman women to a sixth-place team finish.  
Williams finished with an 8k time of 24:06, also a personal best at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native placed 39th individually out of the pool of 186 runners. This is Williams’ second SoCon runner of the week recognition this season.  

Furman will return to action at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University of Charlotte on Oct. 11.
