SoCon announces October rifle athlete of the month
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Emme Walrath has been selected as the Southern Conference Rifle Athlete of the Month for October. Walrath has earned this month’s honor in both Smallbore and Air Rifle. The selection is made by the league office and is the first of the season.
Walrath, a freshman, earned this month’s recognition by averaging 590.200 in Smallbore and 597.400 in Air Rifle in five matches to start her career, including two school record Air Rifle scores of 599 in matches against No. 15 Army and No. 8 TCU. Walrath also scored a school record aggregate score of 1,191 against TCU on Oct. 20.
The native of Kenosha, Wisconsin, finished second in both disciplines against No. 2 West Virginia on October 6, then finished first in Small Bore and sixth in Air Rifle against No. 2 Kentucky on October 12.
To start her collegiate career, Walrath finished in first place in each event for an aggregate score of 1185 against No. 17 North Georgia on October 5. Walrath is ranked fourth among all competing rifle athletes, with an aggregate average of 1187.6. Georgia Southern’s next matchup will be against SoCon foe VMI on Nov. 16.
