Georgia Southern Claims Smallbore Crown at Rifle Championship
Eagles win smallbore for fourth straight season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Defending overall Southern Conference champion Georgia Southern claimed its fifth consecutive smallbore crown Saturday at the 2025 SoCon Rifle Championships at the GSU Shooting Sports Education Center in Statesboro, Georgia. GSU Tori Watts claimed the individual title.
Butler and Walrath were joined by Ella Goldfaden, Emma Pohlmann, and Watts as five Eagles advanced to the finals.
The Citadel’s Emrie Fast-Clarke, UAB’s Meghan McLaughlin, and UNG’s Maya Cameron rounded out the finals field.
There, Watts claimed the title after totaling 456.2 to top teammate, Pohlmann by one-tenth of a point, who posted a 456.1. GSU rounded out the top five with Butler, Walrath, and Goldfaden finishing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Watts' win marks the fourth consecutive individual smallbore champion for GSU.
UAB finished third in the team smallbore standings with 2,260 points, VMI was fourth at 2, 233, followed by The Citadel (2, 214), VMI women’s team (2,213), The Citadel’s women’s team (2,200) and Wofford (2,148).
Georgia Southern will look to defend its air rifle title when the SoCon Rifle Championship resumes Sunday.
Sunday’s first relay is set for 7:45 a.m. and the finals are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
