Sunday's softball roundup

WOF - The Wofford softball team (27-15, 8-4 SoCon) completed the series sweep in the final game at Western Carolina (20-22, 4-7 SoCon) on Sunday, April 14. The final game of the series saw freshman Natalya Salo throw a complete game shutout combined with the Terrier offense breaking the game open late to give Wofford the comfortable 8-0 win.
WCU - Wofford used a three-run homer in the fourth and added on insurance runs in the seventh inning to complete the three-game Southern Conference sweep of Western Carolina softball on Sunday afternoon at the Catamount Softball Complex.
UTC - Chattanooga swept Furman with its third straight shutout, beating the Paladins 9-0 in five innings in Greenville, S.C. The Mocs scored eight runs through the first three innings and added an insurance run in the top of the fifth.
The Mocs improve to 29-11 overall and 8-3 against the Southern Conference. The Paladins fall to 13-29 on the year and 3-9 in league play.
FUR - Chattanooga scored eight runs over the first three innings and starter Peja Goold picked up her second win of the weekend to power the Mocs to a 9-0 victory and series sweep of Furman on Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
ETSU - East Tennessee State University softball used a sixth inning rally to come back and defeat Mercer 5-2 on Sunday.
Freshman Whitney Boone, senior Sara Muir and junior Leinani Lutu all reached base safely three times on Sunday and each scored a run.
MER - East Tennessee State combined for nine hits in its final three at-bats and put together a 3-run sixth inning to salvage its series against visiting Mercer with a 5-2 win over the Bears in Sunday's series finale at Betty Basler Field.
UNCG - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fought past the Samford Bulldogs with a 5-3 victory on Sunday to take the series two games to one at UNCG Softball Stadium.
UNCG is now 32-12 overall and 9-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) and Samford is 28-17 overall and 9-3 in the league. With the win, UNCG and Samford are tied for first with a .750 SoCon win percentage, but the Spartans have the edge since they won the series 2-1.
SAM - The Samford softball team wrapped up play this weekend with the game of a three-game series against UNCG. After splitting the two games yesterday, the Bulldogs fell in the finale 5-3 as they suffered their first series defeat of the year. Samford drops to 28-17 overall while the two sides are tied atop the Southern Conference with 9-3 records.
