SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford infielder Katie Campbell and Wofford right-hander Abby Greenwood have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for their efforts from April 7-13. The awards are selected by the league office.

Campbell hit .583 for the Bulldogs last week. On April 9, the native of Cape Coral, Florida, went 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs in a 7-5 victory over West Georgia. The sophomore had two hits, including a double, and an RBI in the first game of a doubleheader at UNCG, which was a 3-1 setback on April 12. In game two, Campbell hit a three-run homer in the third inning, tying the game at 5-5. She would pick up her fourth RBI of the contest on a fielder’s choice in the fifth frame, giving Samford a 6-5 lead which the Bulldogs held on to for the win. Campbell, who is the third straight Bulldog to win the weekly honor, currently leads the SoCon in RBIs with 50.

Greenwood went 2-0 last week, tossing a pair of complete games, including a shutout, inside the circle. The sophomore had nine strikeouts, while allowing two hits in a 4-0 win over Presbyterian on April 8. Four days later, the King George, Virginia, product struck out eight batters and gave up one run as Wofford defeated Western Carolina, 4-1. Greenwood is currently fifth in the conference in ERA (2.23).

Samford (28-17, 9-3 SoCon) hosts Furman (13-29, 3-9) for a weekend series on April 18-19. Wofford (27-15, 8-4) travels to Winthrop on April 15, before welcoming Chattanooga (29-11, 8-3) for a three-game series on April 18-19.
