Saturday's softball roundup

St. John's 10, ETSU 3

East Tennessee State University softball dropped its opening contest of March 10-3 to St. John's.
The Buccaneers only mustered four hits in the defeat, three of which came in the three-run third inning. Sophomore infielder Makayla Veglia had an RBI double, and senior infielder Halle Laramie had the only other RBI for ETSU.

Alabama 8, Furman 0

Furman 10, UAB 9

Freshman Kate Stoltzfus delivered a two-run, walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Furman to a 10-9 victory over UAB and a split on day two at the T-Mobile Crimson Classic at the University of Alabama's Rhoads Stadium Saturday afternoon. The 22nd-ranked Crimson Tide downed Furman, 8-0, in the first game.

Mercer 3, FGCU 1

Florida State 19, Mercer 1

Mercer plated a trio of runs on ill-timed mistakes by Florida Gulf Coast on the way to a 3-1 victory over the Eagles in Saturday's opener, but fell victim to 8th-ranked Florida State's ultra-hot bats in a 19-1 setback in a late-afternoon matchup, to split action on Day 2 at the FSU-hosted Dugout Club Classic.

Elon 8, UNCG 4

UNCG 6, Sacred Heart 2

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball fell to Piedmont Triad foe Elon, 8-4, and then defeated Sacred Heart, 6-2, on Saturday at Hunt Softball Park.
 
With the win over the Pioneers, the Spartans improve to 13-4 overall.

Samford 4, Western Michigan 0

Samford 7, FAMU 0

The Samford softball team returned to action this afternoon for two more games against Western Michigan and Florida A&M and the Florida Gator Invitational. The Bulldog pitching dominated their opponents as Olivia Trout threw a complete game no-hitter in a 4-0 win over WMU while Jordyn Partain allowed one hit as Samford defeated FAMU 7-0. The Dogs take their record to 12-6 after the two victories today.

Chattanooga 7, Stony Brook 5

Chattanooga 6, Gardner-Webb 1

There was no shortage of drama for the Chattanooga softball Mocs Saturday on Day Two of the Gardner-Webb Spring in the Springs tournament. In the opening game of the day, UTC put up five runs in the fifth for a come-from-behind 7-5 win over Stony Brook and then closed the day with a thrilling 6-1, nine-inning affair against the host Runnin' Bulldogs.

Western Carolina 8, Presbyterian 2

Western Carolina 13, Rhode Island 1

Behind solid offense up and down the lineup card and stellar pitching from senior Tessa Juett and freshman AG Batson, Western Carolina softball continued its winning ways on Saturday at the Catamount Classic with an 8-2 win over Presbyterian before a 13-1 run-rule victory over Rhode Island in the nightcap at the Catamount Softball Complex.

Tennessee State 6, Wofford 5

Wofford 2, North Dakota 1

Wofford softball (14-6) split two games on Saturday with a loss to Tennessee State 5-4 in eight innings and then a win against North Dakota 2-1 at Hope Field. The win over North Dakota was Wofford's fourth walk-off victory of the season. The games were the final two for the Terriers in the Wofford Invitational.
