SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced
Chattanooga’s Snell and Long honored
SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Chattanooga shortstop Kailey Snell and Mocs right-hander Taylor Long have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games from March 25-31. The awards are selected by the league office.
Snell, serving as the squad’s leadoff batter, hit .900 in the Mocs’ three-game sweep over ETSU last weekend. Chattanooga won each game via run-rule, winning a pair of games on March 29, 9-1 and 13-1, before closing the series with a 10-0 victory. In the first game of the series on March 29, Snell went 3-for-4, scoring two runs and stealing one base. Later that day, the senior was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases. In the series finale on March 30, the Shelbyville, Tennessee, native had three hits, including one double, two RBIs, one run scored and a stolen base. Snell is currently second in the SoCon in batting average (.392) this season.
Long, who received the honor for the second straight week and third time overall this season, won her SoCon-leading 11th game in the first contest of the Mocs’ series with ETSU. The sophomore threw a complete game, striking out a career-best 13 batters and allowing just one run. The native of Calhoun, Georgia, leads the conference in strikeouts (104) and opposing batting average (.184).
Chattanooga (24-8, 6-0 SoCon) faces Austin Peay on April 3, before hosting Wofford () for a weekend series on April 6-7.
