Saturday's softball roundup

Chattanooga 9, Wofford 0

UTC - Chattanooga put four runs on the board in the top of the first and added five more in the final three innings beating Wofford 9-0 in Spartanburg, S.C., to claim the series win.

WOF - The Wofford softball team (28-18, 9-6 SoCon) lost the final game of the three-game weekend series against Chattanooga (33-12,10-4 SoCon) on Saturday, April 19, at Hope Field.  The Terriers were defeated by a 9-0 score to close out the series against the Mocs.

Mercer 12, Western Carolina 4

MER - Home-standing Mercer pounded out 12 hits and tacked up crooked numbers in four different innings as the Bears finished off a weekend sweep of Western Carolina with an abbreviated 12-4 win over the Catamounts on Saturday at Sikes Field.

WCU - After offense was hard to come by during much of Friday's doubleheader, Western Carolina and Mercer both plated four runs in the opening two innings of Saturday's series finale. The Bears then used a trio of multi-run innings that allowed Mercer to complete the three-game sweep with a 12-4 run-rule victory from Sikes Field.

UNCG 3, ETSU 1

UNCG - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team won its fourth The Southern Conference (SoCon) series this season after defeating ETSU 3-1 on Saturday at UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans totaled 10 hits in the victory for their 16th game with double-figure hits this season.

ETSU - East Tennessee State University softball dropped the series against UNCG with a 3-1 loss on Saturday.
The Bucs, who fell to 4-11 in the SoCon with the loss, mustered just one hit before the seventh inning, a double from Riley Nayadley in the fourth.

Furman 6, Samford 1

FUR - Pitchers Anglelina Ricciardi and Emme Buzhardt held the Southern Conference's top offensive to one unearned run and Kiley Perry belted a three-run homer as Furman topped first-place Samford, 6-1, in the finale of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Samford Softball Stadium.

SAM - The Samford softball team hit the field today atop the Southern Conference standings alone as they looked to finish off a home series sweep of Furman. They were unable to come up with the late-inning magic they had in game two yesterday as they fell to the Paladins 6-1 today. Samford's record falls to 30-18 with the defeat and they move to 11-4 in league play.
