Friday's softball roundup

ETSU 10, Mercyhurst 6

Marist 9, ETSU 0

East Tennessee State University softball split a pair of games on Friday, winning 10-6 over Mercyhurst but falling 9-0 to Marist.
ETSU opened the first game against Mercyhurst with a double to the left centerfield wall from junior outfielder Taylor Suchy that scored senior infielder Cameron Young. Young would score again in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch.

Gardner-Webb 7, Furman 2

Furman 11, Youngstown State 1

Furman scored six first-inning runs and rolled to an 11-1 victory over Youngstown State in the final game of the day at the Furman Round Robin at Pepsi Stadium to earn Friday split. Gardner-Webb opened the weekend with a 9-1 win over the Penguins and 7-2 win over the Paladins.

Mercer 7, Jacksonville 4

North Florida 8, Mercer 3

Tori Hedgecock and Sietske Drijvers hit back-to-back solo homers to lead Mercer to a 7-4 victory in the early game, but North Florida put together a pair of multi-run innings in the nightcap to hand the Bears an 8-3 loss and a Friday split at the JU-hosted Spring Break Challenge.
 
Mercer (12-11) moved to 5-2 in neutral site contests this season with the win over the Dolphins (12-10), while the setback on Thursday evening marked the third-straight series win for the Ospreys (19-8) in the 19-year-old series with MU.

UNCG 10, NCCU 2

Michigan 9, UNCG 0

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated North Carolina Central, 10-2, in six innings and then fell to Michigan, 9-0, in five innings on Friday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

Samford 10, Detroit 3

Samford 1, ULM 0

The Samford softball team started play today at the North Alabama Tournament against Detroit and Louisiana Monroe. The Bulldogs dominated the Titans 10-3 and followed it up with a 1-0 pitchers duel win against the Warhawks. The 2-0 day moves the Bulldogs record to 15-7 on the season. 

Chattanooga 8, Siena 1

Chattanooga 14, Niagara 1

The Chattanooga softball team made quick work of the day Friday sweeping through its first two games of the Make it Happen Games at Madeira Beach, Fla. UTC beat Siena 8-1 in the opening game and followed that up with a 14-1 victory against Niagara to improve to 16-7 overall and run its win streak to 14 games.

Western Carolina 3, Boston 1

Western Carolina 4, Winthrop 1

Western Carolina softball began the Eagle Classic using the power of four home runs and a pair of complete games in the circle to defeat Boston University 3-1 before dispatching of tournament host Winthrop 4-1 on the opening day from the on-campus Eagle & Terry Field.
