SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced
Mercer’s Langford, Wofford’s Salo honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer outfielder Hallie Langford and Wofford right-hander Natalya Salo have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for their efforts from Feb. 17-23. The awards are selected by the league office.
Mercer’s Langford went 8-for-15, including six extra-base hits, last week for the Bears. The redshirt senior began her week hitting a three-run home run in the sixth inning against Georgia State on Feb. 19. The next day, Langford had two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs in a 17-0 win over Alabama State. On Feb. 21, the native of Trenton, Florida, went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-1 win against Middle Tennessee. Langford concluded her weekend with a double, a stolen base and a run scored, which was the team’s lone score in a 2-1 setback against UConn.
Wofford’s Salo had three appearances inside the circle, logging two saves and a win during the Sparkle City Invite in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The freshman got her two saves on Feb. 21, in a 3-1 win over Colgate and a 6-4 victory against North Carolina A&T. Salo struck out five of the last seven batters she faced against N.C. A&T. The next day, the product of Indian Trail, North Carolina, pitched a complete game in a 3-2 win versus South Carolina State, finishing with 10 strikeouts during her third win of the season.
Mercer (7-6) plays Georgia Southern on Feb. 26, before traveling to the Dugout Club Classic in Tallahassee, Florida, on Feb. 28-March 2. The Bears will play against the College Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State during the tournament. Wofford (11-3) welcomes Northern Iowa on Feb. 25, before hosting the Wofford Invitational on Feb. 27-March 1. The Terriers face North Dakota, Buffalo and Tennessee State over the weekend.
