SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford infielder Grier Bruce and Bulldogs right-hander Jordyn Partain have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for their efforts from March 31-April 6. The awards are selected by the league office.

Bruce helped Samford to a 3-1 record last week. The senior hit an RBI double in the sixth inning of the team’s 9-3 setback at 24th-ranked Alabama on April 1. On April 4, Bruce had a hit and a run scored in the Bulldogs’ 11-0 five-inning win versus ETSU. The next day during a doubleheader with the Bucs, the Kennesaw, Georgia, product went 4-for-6 with a home run, a walk, two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and three runs as Samford won the two contests, 9-4 and 10-2.

Partain went 2-0 last week throwing a pair of complete games, including a shutout, inside the circle. The senior had seven combined strikeouts in the team’s 11-0 and 10-2 victories. The native of Macon, Georgia, did not allow any earned runs and walked zero batters in her appearances. Partain is second in the league in shutouts (4) and appearances (24).

Samford (26-15, 8-1 SoCon), who is on a six-game winning streak, plays at West Georgia on April 9, before heading to UNCG (30-10, 7-2) for a weekend series on April 12-13. The Bulldogs and Spartans are currently the top two teams in the SoCon standings.
