Wednesday's softball roundup

Mercer upsets No. 16 Georgia; UNCG wins over NC State

Chattanooga 3, Jacksonville State 2

Chattanooga put up two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth and held off Jacksonville State in a 3-2 non-conference win at Frost Stadium Wednesday night.
 
The Mocs improve to 25-9 overall while the Gamecocks move to 23-14 on the year. This was the second meeting between the two programs this season with UTC winning both.

UNCG 4, NC State 3

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team came from behind for a 4-3 victory over NC State on Wednesday at the UNCG Softball Stadium in non-conference action.
 
This was the first victory over the Wolfpack since April 3, 2019, when the Spartans won 2-1 in Greensboro. This is the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win for the Spartans since Feb. 27, 2022, when UNCG beat Virginia, 6-4, in Greensboro.

No. 6 South Carolina 2, Wofford 0

The Wofford softball team (20-16, 2-4) fell short in Columbia, South Carolina on Wednesday, April 2, 2-0 against the University of South Carolina. The Terriers held the #6 team in the nation to just two runs as the Terriers had opportunities as they left six runners on base in the game.  

Mercer 5, No. 16 Georgia 2

Mercer tacked up five runs in the first three innings behind a standout performance in the circle from redshirt junior Hannah Pitts, and the Bears recorded their first win over a nationally-ranked team in seven years with a 5-2 rattling of 6th-ranked Georgia on Wednesday evening at Turner Softball Stadium.
