SPARTANBURG, S.C.&nbsp;– Chattanooga’s Caia Elisaldez has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 19-25, averaging 16 points and 5.5 assists per game as the Mocs went 2-0 last week. This award is selected by the league office.Elisaldez started her week with a 15-point performance against King University. The sophomore shot 80-percent from the field and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while also securing four rebounds and dishing out six assists.Against Lipscomb, the Whittier, California, native contributed a career high 17 points and five rebounds in the Mocs’ victory. Elisaldez went 7-of-12 from the field and tallied five assists and two steals. She is currently the leading scorer for Chattanooga, averaging 11.4 points per game this season.Chattanooga (4-3) will participate in the FGCU Homewood Suites Tournament on November 29-30 in Fort Meyers, Florida. The Mocs put together a very solid performance on the night, with UTC hanging its hat on a season-low 12 turnovers paired with shooting the ball at a 26-for-51 (51 percent) clip as a team. Chattanooga also shut down the Tornado in the middle 20 minutes of the game, only allowing King to score a combined nine total points across the second and third quarters.<a href="https://mercerbears.com/news/2024/11/20/womens-basketball-hot-handed-mississippi-state-turns-back-mercer.aspx" target="_self">Mississippi State 81, Mercer 44</a>Undefeated Mississippi State shot nearly 60 percent from the field, including a 10-for-22 clip from downtown, and posted a big disparity in the rebounding column on the way to an 81-44 victory over visiting Mercer on Wednesday evening in Humphrey Coliseum. The Bears (2-3) forced 16 turnovers and were rock solid from the free throw line for the fifth time this season, but shot just 28 percent from the field on the night. The Bulldogs (5-0), who received a handful of votes for consideration in both major national polls this week, finished off a perfect season-opening home stand with the result.

SPARTANBURG, S.C.&nbsp;– Samford’s Emily Bowman has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 12-18, averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs went 1-1 last week. This award is selected by the league office.Bowman started her week with a double-double against Florida State. The senior shot 80 percent from the field and went 5-of-8 from the free throw line, registering a career-high 21 points while also securing 10 rebounds. Three days later, the Huntsville, Alabama, native contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in just 12 minutes of playing time as the Bulldogs beat Fisk 112-61. Bowman went 5-for-7 at the line and shot 50 percent from the field. Samford (1-4) welcomes Montevallo on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The Bulldogs then travel to Vanderbilt on Friday, Nov. 22. Fisk fell to 1-4 with the loss. The Mocs (2-3) kept it tight with the Bulldogs (4-0) over the opening 20 minutes of action, as UTC trailed by only five points at the halftime break. However, a strong third quarter from MSU proved too much to overcome as Mississippi State would build up a lead right up until the final buzzer.

The senior from McKinney, Texas was electric in Spartanburg, going 6/9 from three and going 2/2 from the free-throw line on the day. Belk Arena, but the Davidson Wildcats held firm to close out a 74-63 win. Both teams move to 2-2 with their respective results. Davidson shot hot with a 49.1 percent overall mark and 44.0 percent clip from three. Wofford posted a solid 37.7 percent overall clip, but the Terriers were held to 25.0 percent beyond the arc. Davidson won the glass, 38-27, but the Terriers won the turnover battle, forcing 17 while committing only 10.

Hearp scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter to help the Pirates (2-1) grab a 22-7 lead after 10 minutes of play. While the Mocs hung with Troy for the remainder of the night, even cutting the lead down to as little as four at one point, it was too little too late as Troy emerged victorious in a physical battle with the Mocs
