Chattanooga’s Caia Elisaldez named SoCon player of the week

Sophomore averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Caia Elisaldez has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 25-March 3, after averaging 18.5 points, 8.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds. This award is selected by the league office.

On Thursday, Feb. 27, Elisaldez scored 18 points, secured five rebounds, and had eight assists in a 74-70 setback against Furman. The sophomore guard shot 53 percent from the field.

In a 69-61 win against Wofford on Saturday, March 1, the Whittier, California, product led the Mocs with 19 points, four rebounds, and a career-high nine assists. She went 7-for-8 from the free throw line and 6-for-10 from the field. With the win Chattanooga clinched the No. 2 seed for the Southern Conference tournament.

Chattanooga (14-13, 9-5 SoCon) will play Mercer on Thursday, March 6, at 1:15 p.m. in the second game of the SoCon Tournament.
